It would cost less to forcefully remove them then to save them afterwards.

Yes I would leave not worth losing your life over. I used to live in FL when Hurricane Andrews hit. My family and I left FL a couple of days before it hit.

It is selfish...you put others at risk. The first responders shouldnt have to rescue your dumb ass! You should have to fend for yourself!

Iv'e been doing okay. I have 4 nights off in a row as my hours were cut down to 20 hours a week. It hurts paying bills. I'm going to look for a new or a second job.

I miss you, hope your doing well. How has your 2 jobs been? Or did you decide not to look for a second job. Last year you said you needed to look for a second job to help pay bills. Hope we can chat soon. I miss our nightly talks on the phone.

For rescue personnel to be expected to go in and try to rescue some one who had all the chances in the world to leave is crazy. I am sure some one would be happy to take some of the people with them and put them in a shelter. It is better than being killed or getting some one else killed. Maybe some of them just never left home before

That's based on a contingency, I left my home when Brisbane was hit by major flooding in 2011, I knew that it was impossible to stay. Cyclones (Hurricanes) I've dealt with for most of my life growing up in central QLD. A few simple precautions mean that staying in your home is not only viable, but, in some cases, preferable.

I hope all who are affected are safe and recover fully and quickly.

Take care all.

Being retired now, I most certainly would, when I was still working though, I had no choice but to ride out the storms, because I was emergency services.

I love the way you make me horny without even doing anything.

shoot free room and board. I'd go to the shelter early so I could get a prime bed.

There are people who have no place to go and no means or money to get there. Evacuating away from all danger would have required some people to go long distances and to have the resources to stay for weeks in case returning sooner was not possible.

There were some men who sent their families to safety and stayed to protect businesses or other unmovable valuable property. Sometimes that is understandable.

For people who stayed and could have left, with no other reason to stay other than wanting to, they should vow to themselves to take the consequences and leave emergency services alone.

And good luck to all of them, smart and not so smart alike.

I don't put my life in danger for material objects. They can be replaced, the body can not. Easy decision. *S*

It depends on my home and location. Easy math, X amout of swell expected and I'm Y above the ground... Three or poles very near... Boarded up of hurricane screens...

But yes, if high tide is normally close to reaching me, I'd leave and hope for the best.

there are far too many variables that would affect the decision

It's not that simple. I lived in South Florida for 13 years, including during Andrew. I can't tell you how many times I boarded up, only to finish and THEN hear "it has turned".

The BIGGEST threat is rising water, so how close to the shore, or to rivers/canals are you? I lived 7 miles inland, 7 feet about sea level, and 3 feet above the surrounding canals - which actually means I was in pretty good shape with regard to rising waters.

Leaving would be dependent upon several factors. I've lived in Florida since 1958 and have been through several hurricanes. One of the factors to consider is what is the house constructed of? Is it wood or cinder block? How old is the roof? How well is the roof attached to the rest of the house? How high is your house above sea level? Can you get to the top of the roof from the inside of your home? Another thing to consider is how far away from the beach are you? Other things to think about is how well supplied, are you? You may be without electricity and/ or water for several days. You may not be able to flush your toilet until the water goes down. I have been through cats 1 2 and 3 but after 3 I'm gone and I'll pray that I'll have something to come back to. Does this help with your poll?

I have a relative who lives in Chaleston SC, she left last Tuesday. I had another friend who lives in Houston and went through the storm last year. She left the day the storm hit. Couldn't find a way out of her subdivision because of trees being down. She wanted to stay and save (????) her house. WTF.....save yourself.

If I had the ability to leave, and somewhere to go to, then I would leave. Life is worth more than property and personal possessions. My older kids live with my ex in Jacksonville, NC and their area was under mandatory evacuation. They were all able to evacuate to Jacksonville, FL last Wed, and won't be able to make it back home until this next Sat. Lots of damage has occurred in their town due to 100+ mph winds, 30+ in of rain, and a 6-9 ft storm surge. Their neighbor stayed and has already told them that their home's roof is damaged and rainwater has entered their upstairs rooms. Hopefully my daughter's car isn't damaged too. It's been a huge ordeal, but at least they are all safe.

While living in "tornado alley", I would take it serious when they said to take cover. Too many close calls. So, yes, I will evacuate. Material things can be replaced.

ok try to keep this short and to the point. I don't believe weather people reports. I look at radar and it depends on where you live as the storm paths. My brother left he was 3 miles from the beach south of where the storm hit. their where afraid there home would not be there when they got back. I have two nieces it two different towns they stayed yet they where 150 miles in land. all are safe. my brother home is just fine wont know what happen until he talks to neighbors that had stayed. you don't fuck with mother nature . I survived Sandy but many neighbors home did not bad flooding and a few basement wall caved in. my own home and 200 more are no longer standing do to this great country buying our home in flooding area. now im on a mountain one mile above lake water. instead of 12ft above sea level.
